Developed a users guide for a Solaris application for publishers and teachers correlating textbooks and educational software with state and national learning assessment standards to satisfy school district requirements. Developed an HTML help system for a subsequent Windows NT Web server version of the application including lesson plan and scheduling tools for teachers. Developed system administrator and programmer's guides for three artificial-intelligence, Solaris software systems run on HTML servers for Websites presenting ads, materials such as catalog entries, and personal matches for a dating service accessing an Oracle database. Developed a programmer's guide for developers using custom Tcl scripting commands calling C subroutines to create prototypes of neural network applications using context vectors for text comparison. Developed a user/administrator guide for Enroll Now! database software for third-party health insurance administrators. The highly customizable FoxPro-based software manages massive amounts of enrollee and dependent data, invoicing of subscriber groups, and recording and balancing monthly payments. It also lets administrators generate extensive setup, database, and monthly analysis reports, record customer service calls, electronically transmit eligibility files to the carriers, and run custom programs. 

Developed a getting started guide and Win 3.1 help for DesignPost P&ID, an intelligent computer aided design (CAD) program for creating process and instrumentation diagrams. Created user and administrator guides for client/server conflict checking software for PC and HP workstations for the PELORUS family of CAD software for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). Created a getting started guide and HP help for Application Component Modeler software for creating libraries of parametric components for DIMENSION III AEC applications. Drafted a reference guide of application programmer interfaces (APIs) for developers of C++ object-oriented software for PELORUS AEC applications.

Designed a Win 3.1-based graphic-user interface (GUI), developed artwork, and co-wrote a specification for the master program scheduler software for General Instrument's Digicipher II system. (The software was proposed to control the uplink programming and scheduling to provide viewers a selection of over 1000 cable channels, including offerings in multiple languages, captions for the hearing impaired, and focus on highly specialized subjects.) Worked on other specifications, developed ISO 9000 forms, and helped form other company-wide documentation standards.

Created a user's guide and online help for Horizon Technology's Window's based CD-ROM software catalog developed for Fox Movietone. Documentation included instructions for executing fuzzy-logic and other types of database searches and ordering news clips from Fox's vast collection.

Created documentation for a LAN printer and print manager software developed by Foresyte in partnership with Ricoh, Japan. Created installation, operation and maintenance manuals for automated video editing and commercial switching equipment for the production and insertion of local commercials over national spots at cable TV headends. Old customers gave the manuals rave reviews and new customers required less training. CMI salespersons used the documents to successfully sell $800,000-dollar systems. The manuals also reduced the need for customer support staff by 40%, and dramatically reduced CMI's accompanying phone bills.

Developed the MasterDat User's Guide for GigaTrend's fast backup system for LAN networks. Regarding the work, the September '92 issue of LAN Technology said "The MasterDat instruction manual details the installation of the software and hardware well enough that even those new to the use of the SCSI interface can install this system." Also developed and updated GigaTrend's user guide for their DAT tape backup system for the IBM AS-400.

Worked with a team of writers to develop documentation for Ventura Publisher 3.0 for the Mac. Helped update the documentation of Formbase for Windows, a combination database and forms package. 

CP Manufacturing

Developed installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting guides for CP Manufacturing's aluminum can sorters, flatteners and densifiers. Some of the manuals were translated into French, Italian and German. One received an award from the 1992 Southwestern Arts and Publications Competition of the San Diego Chapter of the Society for Technical Communicators.

Developed a Configuration Management Manual and new procedures to meet Government requirements for a new contract. The documents were quickly approved by the Government and the company's private sector contractor.

Developed a user guide for a computer network of auto dismantlers. Described the use of the software, and installation and maintenance of the hardware. Co-developed an installation and maintenance manual for a message switching hardware/software system. 

Maxwell Laboratories, Inc.

Developed an installation and maintenance manual for a microprocessor controlled magnetic welder for welding nuclear fuel rods. Called the "Cadillac of Maxwell manuals," the document became a design model for all subsequent manuals. Developed numerous custom manuals for laser power conditioning systems, magnetic metal forming equipment, Marx generators, electromagnetic pulse (EMP) test equipment and pulse power components. Wrote procedures for handling hazardous waste. Wrote copy and scripts and produced brochures and videotapes that greatly increased the sales of Maxwell products. Developed Quality Assurance and Workmanship Standards manuals. 

Supervised four instructors. Co-designed and implemented course ware and training aids concentrating 12 years of mathematics curricula into 12 weeks. Taught the course ware to Saudi Arabian Naval recruits preparing for U.S. Navy rate training in electronics, engineering and seamanship. Researched and developed behavioral objectives using military standard CNTECHTRA A-10.

Assisted in publishing the best-selling text book: Shenk's Calculus and Analytic Geometry (Goodyear Publications, 1977; reprints by Scott Foresman). Aided in the verification of solutions and provided accurate graphic representations of mathematical functions for both camera-ready copy and artists' reproductions. Laid out the accompanying Answer Book and received royalties for coauthoring the accompanying Solutions Manual. 

As an apprentice teacher, developed and administered enrichment instruction to students from lower division calculus courses.
